About us

Flavius Counselling was founded from a deeply personal place — shaped by the understanding that early experiences and childhood trauma can have a lasting impact on how we move through the world today. That insight, grounded in both lived experience and professional training, is at the heart of everything we do.

We understand that life’s challenges can show up in many different ways — sometimes shaped by early experiences, other times by the weight of what we carry today. Whether you’ve faced trauma, are navigating emotional struggles, or live with the pressure of being seen by others, you deserve a space where you can simply be yourself.

You don’t need to have it all figured out. You just need a space where you feel safe enough to begin — and we’re here to hold that space with you.

At Flavius Counselling, our online sessions are thoughtfully created to offer the same warmth, presence, and depth as in-person therapy — while allowing you the comfort and privacy of your own home. We provide counselling services across the UK, making it easier for you to access support in a way that fits your life and needs.

Our Therapist

With over 20 years’ experience as a Senior Lead Consultant in the recruitment sector, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals from all walks of life. This has deepened my understanding of human resilience, the value of connection, and the importance of compassionate support.

My own experience of therapy has been profoundly transformative, strengthening my belief in its ability to bring about lasting, meaningful change. This combination of professional insight and personal growth underpins my therapeutic work.

The Values That Guide My Practice

Rooted in Carl Rogers’ person-centred approach, my practice is shaped by three core values:

  • Unconditional Positive Regard – You’ll be welcomed just as you are, without judgment, in a space where you feel accepted and valued.

  • Congruence – I show up as my authentic self, building a genuine, open relationship rather than hiding behind a role.

  • Empathy – I aim to deeply understand your experiences from your perspective, offering presence, care, and curiosity throughout our time together.

FAQs

What happens during the first session?

Before we begin working together, I offer a complimentary 20-minute phone consultation. This gives us a chance to talk about what you're looking for, explore whether my approach feels right for you, and give you space to ask any questions about me, how I work, or what to expect from the counselling process.

The consultation is an informal conversation with no pressure to commit. Afterward, I encourage you to take some time—perhaps a couple of days—to reflect and decide if you feel comfortable moving forward. If you’d like to proceed, we’ll arrange regular weekly sessions at a mutually convenient time.

In our first session, we’ll begin by reviewing our working agreement, which outlines the boundaries and expectations of the counselling relationship. We’ll also start to explore in more depth what you’d like to focus on in therapy, at a pace that feels right for you.

How Long is each session?

Regular sessions are 50 minutes in length and are held at the same time each week. This consistency helps create a stable and reliable space for therapeutic work to unfold.

How long can I have therapy?

The length of therapy depends on your individual needs and what you’d like to explore. I offer short–medium term therapy (up to six months) for those seeking focused support around specific issues, and long-term therapy (up to one year) for deeper exploration and more complex challenges.

We’ll regularly review how the process is going, and you’re free to continue for as long as it feels helpful. There’s no pressure or fixed end point — therapy moves at your pace.

what is the BACP Ethical Framework?

The BACP Ethical Framework, developed by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, sets out the core values and professional standards that counsellors follow. It ensures therapy is delivered with respect, confidentiality, and integrity.

This framework guides therapists to prioritise client welfare, maintain trust, and make ethical decisions throughout the counselling process. By adhering to these principles, counsellors commit to providing safe and effective support.

how many sessions will i need?

There’s no fixed number of sessions that suits everyone — counselling is a personal and individual process. I offer both short-term and long-term therapy, depending on your needs and what you’re hoping to explore.

Some clients come with a specific issue they’d like to work through in a focused way, while others may seek longer-term support for deeper self-understanding or ongoing challenges.

The pace and duration of our work will be guided by your goals and comfort. We’ll also have regular check-ins to reflect on how the process is going and to make sure you’re receiving the support that feels right for you.

Do you offer face to face counselling?

At this time, all counselling sessions are held remotely, either by telephone or via secure video through Google Meet or Zoom.

To help you get the most from your online sessions, I encourage you to find a quiet, safe, and private space where you can speak freely and feel at ease. Please ensure your device is fully charged and that you're seated comfortably in an environment free from distractions.

For video sessions, it's also worth considering what may be visible on camera and whether it feels comfortable for you — for example, you might choose to move personal items or photos beforehand to maintain a sense of privacy.

Remote therapy can be just as effective as in-person sessions, offering flexibility while still providing a consistent and supportive space for your therapeutic journey.

Can I have contact outside of therapy?

To maintain clear therapeutic boundaries and ensure the effectiveness of our work together, I do not offer contact outside of scheduled counselling sessions.

Information

  • The Spoon Theory, created by Christine Miserandino, is a metaphor used to explain the limited energy of those with chronic illnesses or disabilities.

It uses "spoons" as a visual representation of units of energy, where each activity costs a certain number of spoons.

Individuals with chronic conditions start the day with a limited number of spoons, unlike those without such conditions who are often assumed to have an unlimited supply.

  • Person-centred therapy offers a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore your thoughts and emotions at your own pace. It's built on the belief that you are the expert in your own life, and with the right support, you have the capacity to grow and heal.

Rather than offering advice or direction, your therapist will work alongside you — listening with empathy, honesty, and acceptance.

This approach is based on three core values:

Unconditional Positive Regard, Empathy and Congruence.
